Creative Beginnings offers fun resinart workshops in McLaren Flat & mobile workshops in other art mediums at local community centres or venues.

Resinart workshops: Run in our home studio clients create their own shimmery piece of practical artwork on either a cheeseboard, table, lazy susan, clock or wall art. During the sessions clients learn how to prep their work from scrach, learn the safety of resin & receive a live demonstration, ready to create their pieces, with a wide range of colours to choose from. Resin art workshops generally take three hours and places are limited to maximum eight people per session.

Art workshops-currently mobile at community centres or within the Workplace wellbeing program.

Did you found the business? Yes

Please provide up to 5 dot points about your business journey:

1. Art and crafts has always been a part of my life, whether it is painting, card making, sewing, renovating or restoring furniture. I find it therapeutic to create. After working in a demanding role within aged care for 14 years, my passion for art became my personal therapy, it was here that I had the opportunity to facilitate art to groups to people over 65 on my day off, it was here that I first-hand saw the real benefits for those attendees.

2. During all of our creative workshops there are as expected moments of fun and social connectivity, but also moments of silence where collectively the groups are focused in a natural meditative state, art is known to gift a therapeutic effect to the recipient & can assist in reducing stress & improve wellbeing. After undertaking Neurolinguistics training & hypnotherapy I realised how important these moments are for everyone’s wellbeing.

3. I have been teaching Resinart workshops in our home studio for the past 3 years, I absolutely love this art form & enjoy teaching this to my students, it is perfect for beginners, they can make a quality & practical piece of abstract art to be proud of. My home is riddled with resinart pieces including benchtops, backsplash & artwork.

4. Last year I commenced teaching art classes within the community, since Covid the aged care classes were cancelled & I’d missed those sessions so much. I started at the Woodcroft neighbourhood centre collaborating as an art session within a few retreat days with alcohol inks, from there we grew to other mediums including Mandala art, Acrylic paints & watercolours, evening classes have incorporated a BYO sip & create experience.

5. I also work on my own art pieces at a monthly social painting group which I’ve been attending for some years, these and other pieces are available for sale & some exhibited in SALA, my resinart works are also available for purchase in my new shop at https://shoplocalsa.com.au/creative-beginnings-art/ I also work on commission pieces when requested.

Name two things you’ve learned from your business journey?

Customer service is key to having a good business, most of my clients come from word of mouth so it is most important to provide a great service.

Social media is ever changing & cannot alone be a reliable source for business, collaboration is also needed.

Why did you join the Women in Business Network?

I took the leap fulltime into my business in September so now this is no longer a hobby, I would like to get my name out there and potentially find likeminded people to work on collaboration ideas for the future.
