Did you found the business? No, Resume Results has been operational for over 20 years, and I contract my services to the business owners, who have stepped back from running the business now.

Please provide some dot points about your business journey:

  • My introduction to the world of business ownership began many years ago when my husband and I ambitiously decided to start our own business whilst he was a full time Music teacher, and I was a “stay at home mum” raising our 3 young sons. From a start-up, we employed two other instrumental teachers and it successfully grew to the point where we employed 17 instrumental teachers, who taught a broad range of instruments to 500 students per week! We leased two buildings from our local Church in Stirling, SA, converting them to Music Teaching Studios, and taught in 14 primary and secondary school locations across Adelaide and regional areas.
  • Until January, 2020 I had been employed for 15 years as the Regional Manager for Hills, Fleurieu & KI, by DOME Association (Don’t Overlook Mature Expertise) a SA State Government funded, not for profit organisation, and was privileged to serve as a Board member for 10 years. For 38 years, DOME had successfully championed the cause of unemployed or under-employed mature age people, aged 40+, assisting them to gain training and employment opportunities, and were supported by a small number of staff and a large number of wonderful volunteers.  Unfortunately, difficult decisions had to be made by the State Government whilst responding to COVID-19, and ongoing funding for DOME was not offered, sadly resulting in the DOME doors closing on June 30, 2020.
  • I have always been a person who believes that when “one door closes, another door opens” and I made a significant decision as an employed “mature age” woman, to start my own business in September 2019, and was  introduced to the owners of Resume Results, who were looking to step back from “hands on” activities.   I have been contracting my services, operating and developing the business ever since, and it has been a seamless process and a very successful transition for both parties!

Name two things you’ve learned from your business journey?

  • Following a health scare in March 2020, I have learnt to manage stress a lot better by investing more time into challenging myself to eat much healthier foods while focusing on getting a lot more exercise! This has resulted in considerable weight loss, a lot more energy, great reports from my Doctor and a sense of achievement in gaining a positive work/life balance!

Why did you join the Women in Business Network? I have been a Member for a long time and from the outset I admired Carolyn’s drive and tenacity to see women thrive in business and wanted to be a part of this incredible and most valuable company of Women …..  in Business!
